The Alliance to End Plastic Waste emphasizes the need for localized solutions to drive a circular economy for plastics. With plastic production soaring and waste mismanagement rampant, a shift away from the linear "take-make-dispose" model is crucial. Establishing collection and proper disposal methods is a starting point, but creating a circular economy, where plastic is kept in use through reduction, reuse, and recycling, is the ultimate goal. This approach offers both economic benefits (estimated annual net gain of $108.1 billion) and environmental benefits, significantly reducing carbon footprints and contributing to climate change mitigation.
