Sungai Watch, an Indonesian non-profit, has unveiled the Ombak lounge chair – their debut furniture piece crafted from discarded plastic. The mountains of plastic waste that is collected from Bali's rivers, is thoroughly washed and heat-pressed to form hard durable sheets. Addressing the global plastic waste pandemic, they plan to create additional furniture, small goods and even art from the recovered recycled materials. The Ombak chair, designed to minimize material use and leave no offcuts, embodies their goal of combating ocean-bound river plastic pollution by creating useful everyday products.
