Japan is launching the world's first wooden satellite, designed to combat long term space pollution, and in particular, the aluminium particles within traditional satellites that burn up in the atmosphere. Called LignoSat, the satellite is made from magnolia wood, which is very durable, and will be launched this summer from the US. If LignoSat performs well, it could lead to more eco friendly and sustainable satellites being built from wood.
